Michael Vaughan has placed an early bet on Afghanistan's fate after seeing them beat Australia in the Super 8s of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Rashid Khan's men scripted history, first of all, by beating Australia for the first time in any given format. They had reached very close to doing so, only last year in the ODI WC, but Glenn Maxwell had stood in Afghanistan's way. He was able to single-handedly guide the Aussies towards chasing a target of 291 within 46.1 overs after losing 7 wickets dramatically.

Glenn Maxwell's double century that night at the Wankhede Stadium had not only lit up Mumbai but sent shockwaves to every team in the event. If Maxwell's 200 was a glorious feat, then Afghanistan's clinical victory earlier today is as glorious and as memorable.

This Afghani side has become the first to defeat a side that has won the World Test Championship, T20, and 50-over World Cups. The Asians, who are no longer considered as newbies in World cricket, registered a dominating and quite one-sided 21-run victory against Mitchell Marsh's side at the Arnos Vale Stadium in St. Vincent.

With this victory, Afghanistan made the job a bit easier for them in terms of reaching the semi-finals. Rashid Khan's side now has to go for a similar result against Bangladesh in their final Super 8 match on June 25th in the very same venue. They also helped the Indian team, who can now ensure that Australia are out of this competition with a win tomorrow in St. Lucia.

Michael Vaughan believes Afghanistan can reach the final of the ICC T20 WC 2024

Afghanistan's historic win over Australia sparked millions of reactions with former England captain Michael Vaughan being one of them. He took to X (formerly Twitter) and claimed that they could test their luck through their skills and go all the way to the finale of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Vaughan feels the Afghans have a genuine chance to reach the last game of the event with their bowling unit capable of turning the heat on. "Great win for Afghanistan .. they have a genuine chance now of reaching the final. They will fancy beating any of the teams in the other group in Trinidad with their bowling attack." - Vaughan wrote on X.

In another tweet after it, Michael Vaughan also made an admission that this win cannot be called a fluke or upset. That it's not a surprising thing anymore as the Rashid Khan-led team contains plenty of skillful players from batting to bowling.

Gulbadin Naib stars in Afghanistan's victory

All-rounder Glubadin Naib came in handy with the ball as he registered sensational figures of 4/20 from his 24 deliveries. From the batting order, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran had notable knocks of 60 off 49 and 51 off 48 respectively.
