The former India coach Sanjay Bangar spoke extensively about star Indian youngsters Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy, and also warned the selectors against repeating last year’s actions following the World Cup.

With the five-match series against South Africa earlier this month, Team India made their comeback to the game’s shortest format. The fifth T20I, which would have decided the series, was rained out in Bengaluru, resulting in a 2-2 tie.

Multiple new players made up the Indian team for the South Africa series, including the rumoured debutant Umran Malik, a speedster. In addition, Umran, whose amazing pace has caught the eye of both cricket fans and ex-players, is a member of the Indian team for the two-T20I series against Ireland later this month.

Umran picked up 22 wickets in 14 games during the 2022 Indian Premier League, easily breaking the 150 kph barrier (fourth-highest in the league).

‘He will certainly get a debut before the T20 World Cup’: Sanjay Bangar

The prospect of Umran Malik making the T20 World Cup roster was extensively debated during a conversation on Star Sports, and former India batting coach Sanja commented on the matter.

The selectors must have faith in Umran notwithstanding Bangar’s insistence that he will make his debut before the international competition in Australia.

He will undoubtedly make his debut (before the T20 World Cup). I believe he would have participated in at least five matches by the moment the West Indies tour is over” Sanjay Bangar Said.

“But if the World Cup results do not go in your (India’s) favour, you could be immediately sacked. Varun Chakravarthy and Rahul Chahar were on your (the host’s) list of names; however, they are no longer on the World Cup roster. Not even close to the squad are they. Therefore, you do not want a talented player to be benched merely because the team’s results are not favourable,” Sanjay Bangar continued.

On June 26, Team India will resume play in the shortest format when all-rounder Hardik Pandya captains the team against Ireland in Malahide for the series opener.
