Aiden Markram, a South African hitter, has praised the IPL for giving him the belief he needed to thrive in T20 cricket. The right-handed batter acknowledged that it was a quality he had previously lacked.
Markram, who is now the third-ranked batsman in the ICC T20I rankings, has been an essential part of South Africa‘s lineup in the shortest format.
In 21 T20Is, he has averaged 42.60 with a strike rate of 146.55. With SunRisers Hyderabad, the 27-year-old also enjoyed a successful IPL 2022 season, averaging 47.63 in 12 innings and scoring three fifties. The right-handed hitter praised the IPL’s assistance ahead of Wednesday’s start of a two-game T20 series against Ireland.
As quoted by ESPN Cricinfo, he said: “Confidence is a massive part of this game. This IPL tournament provided me with that confidence, that belief that I was lacking.”
Aiden Markram understands the idea behind rotating players:
As everyone deserves a fair shot before the T20 World Cup Down Under, Aiden Markram said he understands the logic behind changing players.
“The management team, captain, and coach have all communicated very well. It facilitates understanding their motivations for doing so (rotating players). Before World Cups, you want to choose your best team, so it is critical to give each player an equal chance before making your final decision.”
“Rilee, Tristan, and Reeza add excitement to our group and provide us some healthy competition. For me, it is all about how I handle the circumstances. If they start us off strong, we need to equal their ferocity when we enter the game. If not, it is up to me to increase the intensity.”
The first Twenty20 International match between Ireland and South Africa is set to begin on August 3 at Bristol’s County Ground.
