Former India pacer RP Singh, while talking about the form of the former India all-format captain, Virat Kohli, said that the senior batter is going through a “very big bad patch”.

Virat Kohli, who is regarded as one of the modern-day greats, has been struggling a lot for the runs in recent times and he has gone century-less for more than two years.

Meanwhile, RP Singh said that Kohli took a lot of time to hit a bad form and coming out of it will also take an equally long time.

He also said that in ODI and Test cricket a player can take his time to get back to form but in a fast-paced T20 game the possibility of gaining back form is very less as the players don’t have the liberty to consume many balls.

“His time is bad. The way he is getting out, it is strange the manner in which he is getting out. We’ve never seen Virat this way. This is a very big bad patch and with Virat, he has taken long to hit a bad form, so coming out of it is going to take equally long. In ODIs and Tests, you can consume balls and slowly get back to form. In T20s, you don’t have that liberty,” Singh told India TV.

Former India pacer added that Kohli adopted the right method to slowly build his innings to get back to form but the T20 format he chose is wrong.

“If you have to come to form, you can start by scoring 60 off 50-55 balls. You can’t expect to score 100 off 55 balls. You have to spend time and take singles, doubles. Coming back to form isn’t easy because he has been dominating for years.

“Virat must be wondering himself that ‘I used to dominate once but now get out whenever ball touches the bat’. He has taken the right method but the format is wrong,” added the former India pacer.

Kohli, who got out for duck several times in the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2022, has been rested for the South Africa T20Is at home and he will directly travel to England for a one-off Test, three ODIs, and three T20Is.
