"This is historic" - Twitter reacts as BCCI terminates Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer’s central contracts

Fans on Twitter reacted after Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were terminated from the annual contract list of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The governing body on Wednesday (28th February) released the Annual Player Contracts for Team India.

As many as 30 players were given annual contracts but what caught the attention of many the absence of  Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. The duo, who till the last month, were the main members of Team India in all three formats of the game have been excluded from the Annual Player Contracts for Team India.

Of late there were a few reports which suggested that BCCI is unhappy with Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan over not playing domestic cricket. The reports had claimed that the governing body would be terminating the duo as a part of the punishment and make a rousing statement.

However, all the reports have proved to be true as the duo didn’t bag contracts. This could well be an indication that Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are no longer in the plans of the BCCI and it also hints that the international career of the duo is under serious scanner.

Ishan Kishan opted out of the Team during the Test series against South Africa. Since then he has been out of the action. The batter was asked by the team management to play for Jharkhand in the domestic circuit but he didn’t and instead was seen practicing separately with the Pandya brothers.

Shreyas Iyer on the other hand, was part of the first two Tests against England. Owning to the poor form, he didn’t feature in the team for the last three games. The batter was asked by the BCCI to play in domestic cricket but he complained of back pain. However, NCA reported that he has no issues and is fit to play.

Grade A+ (4 Athletes)

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja.

Grade A (6 Athletes)

R Ashwin, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya.

Grade B (5 Athletes)

Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Grade C (15 Athletes)

Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan and Rajat Patidar.
