Thisara Perera Emulates Yuvraj Singh’s Feat, Smashes Six Sixes in an Over

Thisara Perera unleashed a brutal assault in the final over of the innings. Pathans' skipper Asghar Afghan's decision to hand the ball to spinner Ayaan Khan backfired, as Perera smashed six consecutive sixes to finish the innings in style.

Ayaan started with a wide before being dispatched for three back-to-back sixes. He bowled another wide, but Perera continued his onslaught, sending the remaining deliveries into the stands. The over ended with a massive 39 runs conceded, as Sri Lankan Lions posted a daunting 230 in 20 overs.

Thisara Perera ended with 108 runs from just 36 balls, featuring 13 sixes and two fours. The Sri Lanka skipper added an unbeaten 155-run partnership for the fourth wicket from just 62 balls. Fernando scored an unbeaten 81 off 56 balls, including seven boundaries and three sixes.

Thisara Perera Achieves Six-Sixes Feat for the Second Time in His Career

Thisara Perera has now achieved the rare feat of hitting six sixes in an over twice. Perera first accomplished this milestone in 2021 while playing for Army Sports Cricket Club in Sri Lanka Cricket’s Major Clubs List-A tournament.

He smashed six consecutive sixes in a blistering 13-ball 52-run knock against Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club.

Perera made his international debut for Sri Lanka in an ODI against India in 2009. He announced his retirement from international cricket in May 2021.

Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard, and Ravi Shastri are among an elite list of cricketers who have smashed six sixes in an over in professional cricket.

Afghanistan Put Up a Fight, but Sri Lankan Lions Prevail

In response, Afghanistan put up a strong fight in the chase but fell short by 26 runs. They lost two early wickets but found momentum through Ayaan Khan and captain Asghar Afghan.

Ayaan contributed a crucial 52-run knock off 38 balls, hitting eight fours and a six. Afghan played a blistering innings of 70 off just 31 balls, smashing eight sixes. He reached his half-century in just 24 deliveries and took on Perera in the 17th over, launching three sixes in a 22-run over.

Despite a late cameo from Asad Pathan (21 off 10 balls), Afghanistan's hopes faded when Vikum Sanjaya dismissed both Afghan and Pathan. They couldn't find the boundary in the final overs and finished at 204/7 after 20 overs.
