Indian batter Tilak Varma has fully recovered from his injury and has completed his rehabilitation. However, citing India's 3-0 advantage in the NZ home series, Tilak will not return for the series but will join the Indian squad for the World Cup in February.

India have been the star of the shortest format of the game and have been invincible in bilateral series in this format, whether at home or in the SENA countries. Though Gautam Gambhir has been blasted by the Indian fans for his poor show in Test and ODI cricket, his consistency in T20I cricket seems unmatchable.

India will not only enter the ICC T20 World Cup as the defending champions, but they will also have the home-ground advantage and the home crowd cheering for them on their side. However, India will be playing under a different coach and captain on this occasion, and without their two most legendary cricketers.

Tilak Varma will not return for the NZ series

India's biggest challenge for the T20I format was to recognise the next generation of superstars for India. After Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the shortest format following the 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, India had to revamp their squad under new coach Gautam Gambhir.

Gautam Gambhir identified talents from the IPL and made them regulars in the Indian side. Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma have been the most consistent and promising picks in this format of the game.

Tilak Varma, who soon rose as one of the anchoring members of the Indian batting order, turned out to be essential for India's upcoming World Cup campaign. However, a freak injury followed by surgery had endangered his participation, but Tilak has made an alarming recovery.

Despite his recovery, he will not play the remaining two matches against New Zealand before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup, as suggested by reports from Dainik Jagran reporter Abhishek Tripathi.

Tilak Varma to make a comeback in the ICC T20 World Cup

A report from Abhishek Tripathi has further confirmed that Tilak Varma is one hundred percent fit and has been cleared by the CoE to feature in international matches. He would seemingly not feature against New Zealand due to the series already being won by the Indians.

Some more time off for Tilak Varma might secure his chances to feature consistently in the World Cup, and the team management might not want any further freak injury to bother the Mumbai Indians stars.

However, the left-handed Indian middle-order batting star would return for the ICC T20 World Cup and join the Indian squad when they assemble for the World Cup on the 3rd of February.

Will Shreyas Iyer finally break into the Indian T20I side?

Indian ODI vice-captain, Shreyas Iyer, was picked as the injury replacement for Tilak Varma, the left-handed batting star. Shreyas, who was formerly a part of the T20I side for India, was sidelined despite his terrific run in domestic cricket.

Iyer has not yet featured in a game for the Indians in this series against New Zealand in the T20I circuit. Sanju Samson's form has been a matter of concern for the Indians, and chances exist that Iyer might be drafted into the squad to bat at no. 3, and Ishan Kishan replaces Sanju Samson at the top.

Samson, in three games, has fewer than 20 runs and has constantly failed to create an impact. Tilak Varma would anyway play in at no. 5 for India, and considering Ishan Kishan's form, Gautam Gambhir might not have the plans to drop him from the playing XI for the World Cup.
