Mumbai Indians' star batter Tilak Varma has won the World Cup and the Asia Cup at the very start of his career, but is yet to win the IPL despite being part of one of the most successful teams in the history of the competition.
Tilak Varma went on to join the Mumbai Indians camp as a youngster, and after some backing, he broke into the Indian team at the back of a set of promising performances.
He has been part of four IPL seasons for the Mumbai Indians and has established himself as one of the best Indian batters in the shortest format of the game.
Tilak Varma not to part ways with MI despite team's recent struggles in IPL 2026
Mumbai underperformed this season as well, as they are currently ninth in the IPL 2026 points table with four wins after having made 12 appearances in the season. Tilak has led with the bat across some games, also scoring his maiden hundred this season.
With Tilak being one of the rising stars of Indian cricket and the star batter performing pretty well with the bat, several experts have opined that Tilak might part ways with the franchise. MI is anyway likely to revamp its squad ahead of IPL 2027.
Tilak Varma said, "We are really sorry, we couldn't do this year; unless I win a championship for MI, I won't leave—I am really proud that I won the World Cup, Asia, all those things—MI has a big legacy; I want to keep the MI legacy high."
A glimpse of Tilak's IPL career with the Mumbai Indians
Tilak Varma, the 23-year-old cricketer from India, has been one of the modern-day superstars of cricket. He is also part of one of the most successful IPL franchises; however, despite individual glory, his team has not been massively successful in the season.
Having made his debut for MI back in 2022, Tilak Varma has amassed 300+ runs across all seasons, with his best season coming in 2024, when he amassed 416 runs across 13 games in the season.
He has amassed 397, 343, 416, 343, and 336 runs, respectively, amassing a total of 1835 runs in the IPL after 66 appearances in his short career. However, he has switched between several roles, from a middle-order batter to a top-order maestro, and recently has transformed into a lower-order finisher.

India are the most successful international team with consecutive ICC T20 World Cup titles in 2024 and 2026. But what is more alarming is that they have managed these two victories under two different skippers and with two completely different generations of cricketers.

Having amassed 1390 runs across 49 T20I games, Tilak is one of India's most prominent T20 batters. He had scored two hundreds when promoted up the order and was recently very good in finishing games when he was demoted to a new role during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He won the 2026 World Cup under Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy.
