Australian Test captain Tim Paine has allayed fears surrounding the upcoming Ashes Down Under.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that the upcoming Ashes are under a huge threat due to the tough quarantine rules imposed by the Australian government.

Vaughan believes that not only does the Australian government needs to allow the families of the English cricketers to accompany them Down Under but also relax some of the quarantine requirements.

“If you have a young wife and two or three kids, are you really going to expect them to spend two weeks (quarantining) in a hotel room and not go out?” Michael Vaughan told Fox Cricket’s Road To The Ashes podcast.

“I think a lot has to change. It’s not just a matter of letting the families in. I think the quarantining may have to change and that is saying to your government, the rules and restrictions (must change), which is a very difficult decision to make,” he said.

“Do you want to see an Ashes series where five of the top guys are not going to tour? They will pull out because they are part of all three formats,” said Vaughan. “Fingers crossed things can be ironed out, but at the minute, the Ashes are under a huge threat. They have pretty much been in a bio-bubble for 18 months,” he said.

Tim Paine has expressed his disappointment at some of the comments made by Michael Vaughan.

“What has been disappointing around that is some of the commentary coming out of England about the Ashes being under threat, from a former England captain Michael Vaughan,” Tim Paine said SEN Hobart’s Jack & Painey.

Alluding to the last summer where the touring Indian team was eventually allowed to travel along with their families following negotiations between Cricket Australia and the Australian government, Tim Paine believes that a similar sort of arrangement will be made this summer as well.

“Last year we had the same stuff going on with the Indian team. The discussions were going on with the two governments and we not only managed to get the Indian players here, but their families,” said Tim Paine to SEN Hobart’s Jack & Painey.

“I’m sure both the Australian government and the English government are working together, and we’ll get it on. It’s such a huge event for both countries. They’ll find a way, they always do.” he said.

The Ashes is scheduled to kickoff at the Gabba in Brisbane from December 08.
