Veteran New Zealand pacer bowler Tim Southee is proud of breaking the India national cricket team's decade-long unbeaten streak in Test series wins at home. The former Black Caps skipper stated that India and Australia are the most difficult places to tour for the New Zealand national cricket team.
New Zealand, led by Tom Latham, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first team in over a decade to win a Test series in India. The Kiwis ended India's home dominance that lasted 12 years, including 18 consecutive series wins. They secured their wins in the Bengaluru and Pune Test matches.
It’s worth mentioning that New Zealand secured their first-ever Test series victory over the Men in Blue on Indian soil. They hadn't secured a Test series victory since 1988 before the first Test match. New Zealand came to India after suffering a whitewash in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
Very Very Tough Place To Come - Tim Southee
Before the third and final Test of the series, Tim Southee said that New Zealand's recent success could inspire other teams to beat India. He mentioned that both India and Australia are the toughest places he has played. Southee stated that it was nice to break the Indian team's winning streak.
"Yeah, I think you just look at the history. What is it, 12 years that someone's been able to do and 18 series or whatever it is. It's a very, very tough place to come," Tim Southee told Cricbuzz.
"I think if you look at it from my perspective and the cricket I've played in the past however many years, I think you look at India and Australia are the two places that are probably the most difficult to tour. Both the conditions, the quality of the opposition and how good they are at home makes it a tough place to tour," said Southee.
"But I think you look at this one in particular, 12 years, 18 series. It's nice to be that side that's broken that run. I guess it shows to other teams around the world that it is possible to beat India in India," he added.
Play Against Those Guys Was A Dream Come True - Tim Southee
Tim Southee said that playing against legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and VVS Laxman was a dream come true for him as a young cricketer in 2010. He described the experience as tough due to the foreign conditions for New Zealand players.
"I guess one of the first things that comes to mind is - tough. It is tough. For us, coming from New Zealand, the conditions are so foreign. I think every time you come here, you're playing against a superstar outfit. I think you look back to that 2010 team, they're like Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, Laxman, Dhoni. Like, as a young guy, to be able to come over here and play against those guys was a dream come true," said Tim Southee.
The Test Match Set To Commence On November 1
Southee hasn't been a leading wicket-taker, but he made a crucial 65 runs in the first innings in Bengaluru. His stand with Rachin Ravindra was instrumental in helping New Zealand secure a lead of 356 runs. The final match is set to take place at Wankhede Stadium, starting on November 1.
New Zealand aims to make history by securing a win against a struggling Indian team. A victory would enhance their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final. Following their tour of India, the Kiwis will return home to take on England in a three-match Test series.
