Tom Moody declares India the T20 World Cup 2024 champions hours before the final

Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody has predicted the winner of the T20 World Cup 2024 final between India and South Africa. He believes that both the teams have been sensational throughout the tournament but the Rohit Sharma-led side has a slight upper hand to claim the title. 

India and South Africa will be up against each other in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024. The match between the teams will be played at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown Barbados on Saturday (29th June) and with the brand of cricket both the teams have played, it promises to be an exciting clash. 

India has been magnificent in the entire tournament both with the bat as well as the ball. The Rohit Sharma-led side has been undefeated in the event as they have been dominant in the event. They have won almost every game by fine margins and have looked a threatening force in the tournament. 

India in the group stage won three out of the three games that they played with one getting washed out. After that, they were dominant in the Super 8 stage as well as they beat Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia to book their berth in the semi-final.

In the knockout stage, India then crushed England to make it into the final. They were extremely dominating in the match as they batted terrifically well in the tough conditions and then blew away the opposition, bundling them for just 103 runs, to win the game by a massive margin of 68 runs. 

On the other hand, South Africa too has been magnificent in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Aiden Markram-led side too is undefeated and has been sensational with the bat and ball. They have won all their games and it is for the first that both the undefeated teams will be playing the final. 

South Africa dominated Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the semi-final. They bundled out the opposition for just 56 runs and then chased the target with ease to book their berth for the final. With the kind of cricket they have played, they would be keen to win their maiden title.

With the India vs South Africa final of the T20 World Cup 2024 around the corner, Tom Moody picked his winner of the tournament. He believes that Rohit Sharma-led are favourites to win but it would be brave to write off the Proteas. Taking to his X account, he explained: 

"Both India and South Africa are very deserving finalists, both undefeated throughout the tournament. India in my view favourites but in saying that you’d be brave to right off SA with so many match winners!"

This is the first time that South Africa is playing in the final of any ICC World Cup. They have often crumbled in the semi-final but this time around would want to turn around things. On the other hand, India last won the ICC event in 2013 and would be eager to end the title drought
