Former Australian all-rounder and the current director of cricket at SunRisers Hyderabad, Tom Moody has explained the reason behind the Orange Army opting for Afghan spinner Mujeeb-ur-Rahman in the IPL auction earlier this year.

SunRisers Hyderabad turned heads during the auction when they claimed the services of Mujeeb-ur-Rahman for Rs 1.5 crore despite already having the likes of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi in their squad.

Moody, in an exclusive interview with SunRisers Hyderabad, said the inclusion of Mujeeb adds more depth to their spin-bowling stocks and his presence will keep everyone on their toes.

”From the overseas perspective, having Mujeeb there(in the side). He is obviously a very very effective T20 bowler and he has shown that throughout his franchise career and obviously playing for Afghanistan. I think he gives us greater depth and certainly, he is going to keep everyone on their toes to you know try and keep their spot in the eleven,” explained Moody while speaking to SRH.

Mujeeb-ur-Rahman took the IPL by storm in his debut season in 2018 where he claimed a total of 14 wickets in 11 matches while going at under seven runs per over

Rahman, however, featured in just two games last season and was subsequently released by the Punjab Kings ahead of the auction.
