Top 7 Teams In ICC World Cup 2023 Along With Pakistan To Qualify For Champions Trophy 2025

The qualification scenario for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been revealed, as per ESPNCricinfo. The teams that will finish in the top 7 positions in the ICC World Cup 2023 will qualify for the tournament, slated to take place in Pakistan. It’ll be an eight-team competition with hosts getting a sure-shot entry.

The Qualification for the tournament will truly depend on the performance in the ICC World Cup 2023. Bangladesh and England, who are currently 9th and 10th, will be under pressure as if they don’t enter into the top 8, they will miss the tournament.

This also means that West Indies, Zimbabwe, and Ireland, who didn’t qualify for the ICC World Cup 2023, won’t be able to take part in the tournament. As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned some cricket boards were taken by surprise after ICC unveiled the qualification scenario.

However, the ICC Spokesperson confirmed that the qualification system for the 2025 Champions Trophy was approved by the ICC Board in 2021. The tournament was reintroduced by the governing body after vanishing it earlier. In 2013 and 2017, the top eight teams in the ODI rankings qualified for the tournament.

Currently, India, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands are in contention to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025. It remains to be seen how things will pan out after the end of the tournament.

Shakib Al Hasan highlights the importance of qualifying for Champions Trophy 2025

Bangladesh aren’t having a great time in the ICC World Cup 2023. They are not in contention to qualify for the semi-finals. But with the Champions Trophy 2025 qualification on stake, skipper Shakib Al Hasan admitted that they need to up their ante in the tournament.

Shakib Al Hasan after Bangladesh’s loss to the Netherlands said:

“I mean, not the semi-final hope. It is not a semi-final possibility. At least, do a little better. Suppose, you have to be in the [top] ranking 8 if you want to play in the Champions Trophy. So, there are still three matches left considering that in mind,” he concluded.
