India's bowlers did a fantastic job on Day 2 by bowling out Australia for 181 runs, but the top order has yet again flopped in the ongoing fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney.

After an explosive start, Indian batters found it tough to counter Scott Boland as KL Rahul surrendered to the Australian pacer for just 13 runs, followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal (22) and Virat Kohli (6). While the Indian opener Rahul and Jaiswal were cleaned bowled by Boland, Kohli was caught out by Steve Smith.

Shubman Gill's reckless shot leaves India in trouble in New Year's Test

Well, Shubman Gill also had an explosive start, but India's number three batter needed to be mindful about his shot selection, as he threw his wicket cheaply to the Australian debutant Beau Webster in the 16th over on Day 2 of the ongoing New Year’s Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney.

Shubman Gill’s partnership with Rishabh Pant was starting to bloom, but he lost his wicket while playing an unnecessary shot against Beau Webster. The Australian seamer delivered a ball at 124.6 kph, and Gill tried to charge down the pitch, but he got an inside edge, and the wicketkeeper Alex Carey didn’t make any mistake in ensuring Gill’s departure in Sydney.

The Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey dived to his left to complete the simple catch, as the right-handed batter departed for 13 runs off 15 balls, laced with two boundaries, with India reeling at 78/4 against the hosts in the ongoing fifth and final BGT 2024-25 Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Shubman Gill's poor shot selection sparks fans' fury after another failure

There was a brief moment of uncertainty, but the square leg umpire confirmed the catch, and Gill walked off, leaving the Indian cricket team in trouble. It was a poor decision from Gill, as he was attempting to take on the seamer instead of playing a more conventional shot in the crucial stage.

After Shubman Gill finished the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 with just 93 runs across five innings at a meager average of around 19, fans have been slamming the Indian batter on social media for his reckless shot as the team needed him to stabilize the innings after three quick wickets.

Fans have been slamming the Punjab lad for always letting the Indian team down as well as the BCCI for encouraging such a “careless and fraudulent” cricketer despite a series of poor performances in Test cricket. Many have been calling out Rohit Sharma for resting to give a chance to such failure.

Here's how fans slam Shubman Gill for his SCG error:

Speaking about the New Year’s Test, Team India already lost five wickets for 124 runs, with the latest being Rishabh Pant, who showed his dangerous form with the bat and scared the Australians at the SCG. But as expected, Pant’s aggressiveness cost him, with Pat Cummins removing him for 61 runs off 33 balls.

He smashed six boundaries and four sixes during his fiery knock in the ongoing Sydney Test. Now, India would not love to lose any wickets from here on Day 2 and end the day with a healthy lead to be in the contest against Australia in the ongoing final BGT 2024-25 Test at the SCG.
