Sunrisers Hyderabad’s destructive opener, Travis Head, was elated after his team ended on the winning side and said it was an important and much-needed victory for the team after suffering back-to-back four defeats in the ongoing IPL 2025.

On Saturday, April 13, Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a sensational eight-wicket victory over Punjab Kings (PSBK) in the 27th match of the ongoing IPL 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad to make a stunning comeback in the tournament.

Riding on Head’s brilliant knock of 66 runs off 37 balls and Abhishek Sharma’s remarkable innings of 141 runs off 55 balls, SRH chased down the 246-run record target inside 19 overs with eight wickets in hand and nine balls to spare to jump to the eighth spot in the IPL 2025 points table.

After SRH’s excellent comeback, the Australian swashbuckling batter admitted that the situation was tough at the halfway stage, but they stayed patient early in their chase against the Punjab Kings. Head said that Hyderabad had a clear idea of the strategies the PBKS would use, so they took their time at the start and then picked up the pace to chase down the record target on Saturday.

Travis Head said at the post-match presentation, “Not bad, nice to get on the winners list. Exceptional night; we needed it. We had our work cut out at the halfway point. We gave ourselves a chance and showed a bit more patience at the start and we knew the plans they were going to come with. Gave ourselves a bit more time and got off to a flyer.”

Meanwhile, Head and Abhishek Sharma unleashed their beast mode with proper planning and stitched the wonderful partnership of 171 runs off just 75 balls for the opening stand against PBKS, and this was possible only because they stuck to what made them successful in the IPL 2024.

The Australian star said that he and his SRH opening partner supported each other, chose the right moments to attack, and built a solid start, as chasing 240 needed everything to fall into place perfectly, and thankfully, everything went their way against the PBKS.

Travis Head further explained, “We did the things we did really well last year, and that’s what made us such a good partnership. It’s just about encouraging each other, picking our targets, and setting the stage. We’ve seen 270-280 scored on that wicket, we’ve played on slightly different wickets, but No. 2 seems to put out big scores. Everything had to go right for us to chase down 240.”

On the other hand, Head was involved in the heated exchange with his Australian teammates and Punjab Kings all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis during the match in Hyderabad. The heat on the field started in the ninth over when Head smashed two big sixes off Maxwell.

Trying to outsmart him, Maxwell bowled a quicker ball that Head hit straight back. Maxwell quickly threw it towards the wicketkeeper, which didn’t sit well with the SRH opener. Later, Head had some animated words with Maxwell, but things got tense when Stoinis joined in, but the SRH star brushed him aside as the umpire stepped in to settle things down.

However, Travis Head had downplayed the incident after the match and said that it was just friendly banter with Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis since they know each other well. He insisted that the exchange wasn’t serious, and everything’s fine between them.

Travis Head signed off by saying, “It's all fun. I think you probably bring the best and the worst out of each other when you know each other so well and play with each other so much. So, yeah, a bit of friendly banter between us, nothing too serious. It was just a bit of banter; everything is good. I got to put up with them at home, so nothing to it.”
