Trent Boult Will Play T20I World Cup 2022 Despite Leaving Central Contract Of New Zealand Cricket

Trent Boult will be part of the forthcoming T20I World Cup 2022 despite leaving the central contract of New Zealand cricket. New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White said that Trent Boult will be selected during T20 World Cup in Australia as the board will give priorities to centrally contracted players.

The New Zealand pacer urged the New Zealand Cricket Board to release him from his central contract as he wants to spend more time with his family and make himself available for the franchise T20I leagues. The board has agreed to his decision.

Trent Boult Will Play T20I World Cup 2022

While speaking to ESPNcricinfo, New Zealand chief executive David White said that Trent Boult will be selected for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

“I’d imagine that he will be selected for the T20 World Cup in Australia because he’s been a big part of our plans and preparation for that. He knows he will be playing a significantly less amount of international cricket. We’ve said to him that, in the future, priority for selection will be given to centrally contracted Black Caps and domestic players. Although, we will, on a case-by-case basis, consider him,” David White said.

Trent Boult is currently the no.1 rank ODI bowler in ICC rankings. He is also part of the upcoming ODI and T20I series against West Indies. The left-arm pacer has played 78 Tests, 93 ODIs, and 44 T20Is and accounts for 317, 169, and 62 wickets respectively.

ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will commence in October in Australia later this year. New Zealand is part of Group 1 in the tournament comprising teams like Australia, England, and Afghanistan in their group. New Zealand will play their opening match of the tournament on October 22 against Australia. Last year, New Zealand finished as the runners-up after losing the final to Australia.
