South African spinner Keshav Maharaj has created history at the Darren Sammy International Stadium in St. Lucia by becoming only the second Proteas bowler to take a Test match hat-trick.

Keshav achieved the feat on the 4th morning of the ongoing 2nd Test against the West Indies.

It all happened during the 37th over of West Indies’ 2nd innings. Keshav Maharaj’s first victim was Kieron Powell, who, in a moment of madness, proceeded to slog-sweep the spinner straight to Anrich Nortje at deep midwicket.

Jason Holder followed suit on the very next delivery as he pressed forward to delivery and ended up giving an easy catch to Keegan Petersen at short-leg.

The historic moment arrived on the next delivery as Joshua de Silva tickled it past his legs, only to see Wiaan Mulder take a stunning catch at leg-slip.

Maharaj has become the 46th bowler and only the 2nd South African- and first after their readmission in cricket in 1991/92- to take a Test hat-trick.

He has also become the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the fourth innings of a Test match and also the first spinner from South Africa to achieve the feat.

Needless to say that the Proteas spinner was chuffed to bits as he went on a celebratory run before being pulled down by his teammates.
