Twitter was left in splits following a comedy of errors involving the Sri Lankan team, third umpire and Suryakumar Yadav during the ongoing third One-day International against India in Colombo.

It all happened during the 23rd over of the Indian innings when Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged leg-before-wicket after he missed the attempted slog-sweep off Jayawickrama.

The on-field umpire was quick to raise his finger but Suryakumar Yadav, after a short discussion with the non-striker, Manisha Pandey, proceeded to challenge the decision.

It took an entirely for the ball-tracking video to come on screen and when it did, it was confirmed that the ball had pitched outside off-stump.

According to the rules, the ball-tracking should have ended then and there but due to some inexplicable reasons, the third umpire proceed to complete the entire review, and, as soon as the ball hit the stumps, the Sri Lankans went up in absolute joy in precision.

However, in a classic case of comedy of errors, it seemed that neither the Sri Lankans nor Surya had knowledge about the DRS rule as the former started celebrating and the latter started going off the field.

To make matters worse, even Suryakumar Yadav began to leave the field as the next batter, Hardik Pandya, started making his way on the ground.

It was only after the third umpire asked the on-field official, Kumar Dharmasena, to change his original decision that sanity was restored.

Nevertheless, Twitter was left in absolute splits by the unbelievable turn of events.

Meanwhile, inclement weather halted the game shortly after that over as India went into the shed at 3/147 after 23 overs. The game resumed after a short delay with the 50-over game being reduced to 47-overs-a-side.

Since then, India has the lost wickets of Manish Pandey and Hardik Pandya.

Both Pandey and Pandya fell to Jayawickrama. While Pandey got caught behind in a soft manner, Hardik Pandya was trapped plumb in front by the left-arm orthodox.

At the time of writing, India had moved on to 5/187 after 30 overs.
