England all-rounder David Willey faced significant backlash from Indian cricket fans following his stories on the social media handle platform Instagram. David Willey attempted to highlight societal differences in India by sharing pictures of local construction and buildings.

David Willey will play his final match for England as the team gears up for the upcoming game against Pakistan at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, November 11. England has been eliminated from the tournament, while Pakistan remains mathematically in the race.

David Willey sparked controversy by posting contrasting images, one of the hotel’s poolside with the caption “Don’t be fooled” and another of local construction with the caption “Reality.” His attempt to show differences backfired as fans criticized the portrayal.

Never Wanted This Day To Come – David Willey

David Willey announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after the 2023 World Cup. Willey emphasized that his decision wasn’t influenced by England’s tournament performance. The cricketer expressed his immense pride in representing England.

“I never wanted this day to come. From a young boy, I’ve only ever dreamed of playing cricket for England. So, with careful thought and consideration, it is with great regret that I feel the time has come for me to retire from all forms of international cricket at the end of the World Cup.”

“I have worn the shirt with immense pride and given my absolute everything to the badge on my chest. I’ve been very lucky to be a part of such an incredible white-ball team with some of the best players in the world. I’ve made some special memories and great friends along the way and been through some very difficult times.”

Willey has notably led England’s white-ball bowling attack across 70 ODIs and 43 T20Is. He was part of the England squad that reached the final of the 2016 T20 World Cup. He was excluded from the 2019 World Cup due to the emergence of Jofra Archer as a key player.
