UAE squad for Asia Cup 2025 announced

The UAE has named its 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, with Muhammad Waseem set to captain the side. Asia Cup 2025 is all set to get underway on September 9 in the UAE with Afghanistan taking on Hong Kong at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The UAE team features two fresh faces in fast bowler Matiullah Khan and left-arm spinner Simranjeet Singh, who are not part of the ongoing T20I Tri-Series against Pakistan and Afghanistan. The rest of the team is the same as the one that is hosting the ongoing T20I Tri-Series.

Matiullah Khan has so far played one ODI and five T20Is for the UAE, while Simranjeet has played five ODIs and 11 T20Is for the side to date. He last played an international game at the Gulf T20I Championship last December. Both will be eager to make a mark in the Asia Cup 2025.

The UAE is placed in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, and Oman. On the other hand, Group B features Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong. UAE’s campaign in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 will begin on September 10 in Dubai against defending champions India.
They are yet to beat India and Pakistan, but they have enjoyed success against Oman in recent years, and now they hope to produce improved performance in the upcoming continental tournament on home soil. This Asia Cup marks the UAE’s first appearance since 2016.

Additionally, the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has also confirmed the support staff for the upcoming Asia Cup. The squad will be managed by Amjad Ezzi, with Lalchand Rajput serving as the head coach and The fitness and conditioning duties will be overseen by Azharuddin Qureshi, while Manipreet Sidhu will take charge as the video analyst.

Naveed Ahmad will be the fielding coach, with Darshan Singh joining as the side-armer for training sessions. Manish Pradeshi will handle the team’s medical and recovery needs as the physiotherapist.

September 10: India vs UAE, Dubai
September 15: UAE vs Oman, Abu Dhabi
September 17: Pakistan vs UAE, Dubai
September 20: B1 vs B2, Dubai
Meanwhile, the UAE’s recent run in the ongoing T20I Tri-Series hasn’t gone their way, but the team has shown signs of promise. In their first game, they showed a strong fight by scoring 176 runs while chasing 208 against Pakistan.
Then, they fought hard again but ended up 38 runs short against Afghanistan. Now, with another clash against Pakistan scheduled in Sharjah on September 4, the UAE side will be aiming to turn those close moments into a stronger all-round performance.
