New Zealand skipper, Tim Southee opened up on the Black Caps’ seven-wicket defeat against United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the second T20I match of the three-game series on Saturday (August 19) at Dubai International Stadium.
Muhammad Waseem-led UAE outperformed New Zealand in the second T20I match and secured their first-ever T20I win in Dubai, which helped them to level the series at 1-1.
In the first inning, Aayan Afzal Khan led the UAE bowling attack and was also named the Player of the Match after he took three wickets in his four-over spell and gave away 20 runs. Muhammad Jawad Ullah was also good with the ball and scalped two wickets.
However, UAE faced no difficulty while chasing the 143-run target, as Muhammad Waseem played a stunning 55-run knock from 29 balls along with Asif Khan who made 48 runs from 29 balls to square the series.
While, the Kiwis showcased a poor performance in the second inning, and could only take three wickets. Tim Southee-New Zealand need to find an anecdote to win the next match and clinch a series victory.
We didn’t learn from the first game: Tim Southee
The Kiwi skipper praised the home side and accepted that they outplayed them in all three aspects. Tim Southee added that anything can happen in a 20-over format.
The skipper further added that the BlackCaps did not learn from the mistakes in the first T20I match and dropped catches played a major role in the game.
Southee praised the UAE skipper and said that is a quality player and showed it for many years.
“A lot of the credit has to go to the UAE team. They outplayed us in all three facets. Anything can happen on a given day in T20 cricket. We didn’t learn from the first game and made the same mistakes. Dropped catches are a part of the game. Waseem has shown for years he is a quality player. We just need to be better in all three areas,” Tim Southee said after the 2nd T20I match.
The third and series decider match between UAE and New Zealand will be played on Sunday (August 20) at Dubai International Stadium. The match will kick off at 7:30 PM IST.
