UAE's Muhammad Usman brings down curtains on international career

UAE batsman Muhammad Usman, on Friday (June 28), announced his retirement from international cricket. The middle-order batsman has brought down the curtains on his international career after representing UAE in a total of 85 international games.

The 38-year-old, who was born in Lahore, played 38 ODIs and 47 T20Is for UAE from from 2016 to 2022. He made his debut for UAE in February 2016 during a T20I against the Netherlands. In August of the same year, Muhammad Usman made his ODI debut as well during the game against Scotland in Edinburgh.

Before representing UAE in international cricket, the left-handed batsman had made his first-class debut as well for them against the Netherlands in January 2016. He played a total of 5 first-class games for UAE.

In 38 ODIs, Muhammad Usman scored 1008 runs at an average of 31.50. He scored one century and five half-centuries in the 50-over format. In T20Is, the southpaw scored 891 runs in 47 games with the help of three half-centuries. 

He was also a part of the UAE team for the 2016 Asia Cup. He had finished the tournament as UAE's highest run-scorer and third-highest overall after scoring 176 runs in 7 games. In 5 first-class games, the veteran batter scored 217 runs with the help of a century. His last appearance in ODI and T20I came in February 2022 against Oman and Nepal respectively.

Muhammad Usman called his journey in international cricket incredible and expressed his gratitude to everyone who played a part in his cricketing journey. He also expressed his desire to remain associated with the game after the end of his playing career.

"It has been an incredible journey with the UAE cricket team and the cricket board. I would like to thank everyone who played a role in my journey including my team-mates, coaches and other support staff. I feel blessed and proud that I got the opportunity of representing UAE for 85 international matches.

"I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life as I want to remain associated with the sport. I want to wish the UAE team and the players the very best in what is a very exciting time for the game in the country," said Muhammad Usman.
