Gujarat Titans have signed up senior India pacer Umesh Yadav for the next season of the Indian Premier League. The right-arm pacer was one of the three Indian players to register at a base price of Rs 2 crores. The other two were Harshal Patel and Shardul Thakur.
Thakur was bought by Chennai Super Kings while Punjab Kings bought Harshal. Sunrisers Hyderabad began the bidding process for Umesh Yadav before Gujarat Titans joined the race. Delhi Capitals also showed interest in their former bowler and entered with a bid of Rs. 5.20 crore but decided against outbidding Gujarat Titans’ Rs 5.80 crore bid.
Last month, Umesh Yadav was released by Kolkata Knight Riders after his poor campaign in IPL 2023. The right-arm pacer had played 8 games and managed just a solitary wicket while having an economy rate of almost 10 runs per over. The out-of-favor India star began his IPL career in 2010 with Delhi Capitals and caught everyone’s attention with his pace.
He plied his trade for Delhi Capitals for four seasons before being signed up by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2014. In his first season with the Knight Riders, he won the IPL and picked up 11 wickets. He played four seasons for the Knight Riders before being released. In 2018, he joined Royal Challengers Bangalore and made an instant impact by taking 20 wickets in IPL 2018.
It was followed by two poor seasons and he was released by the RCB ahead of the 2021 auction and played for Delhi Capitals for one season. In 2022, he was once again bought by the Knight Riders. So far, he has played 141 matches in IPL and picked up 136 wickets.
