Umran Malik has suffered yet another injury setback and is unlikely to take part in the remainder of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-arm pacer sustained the injury in the very first match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy for his team Jammu & Kashmir.

Jammu & Kashmir opened their campaign with a crushing defeat against Karnataka at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday (November 23). The heavy defeat was not the only concern for Jammu & Kashmir as their star bowler Umran Malik also sustained an injury in his left foot.

According to journalist Mohsin Kamal, the fast bowler could miss the entire competition. Umran Malik had a poor day with the ball too as he failed to pick up any wicket while conceding 68 runs in his 8 overs.

Umran Malik has been suffering from injuries as well as his form this year. The highly-rated pacer has not really managed to live up to the expectations so far after his breakthrough IPL season last year. He picked up 22 wickets in 14 games in IPL 2022 and impressed one and all with his pace. It also helped him earn his maiden India call-up and he went on to make his T20I and ODI debuts last year.

However, Umran Malik has had a poor 2023 so far. In IPL 2023, he managed just 5 wickets in 8 games and has seemingly fallen down the pecking order in the Indian team. He has not played a T20I since February while his last ODI appearance came in July.

Karnataka thrash Jammu & Kashmir:

Talking about the game between Karnataka and Jammu & Kashmir, the former inflicted a heavy 222-run defeat on the latter to start their season on a strong note. Batting first, Karnataka piled up a mammoth total of 402 for 2 in the allotted 50 overs.

Openers R Samarth and Mayank Agarwal scored centuries while sharing a huge 267-run stand for the first wicket to lay the foundation for the big total. Samarth scored 123 while Agarwal scored 157. Devdutt Padikkal then played an unbeaten whirlwind knock of 71 runs from just 35 balls to take his team to the big total. In reply, Jammu & Kashmir were all out for 180.
