West Indian star batsman Chris Gayle shut his critics down in style by playing a match-winning knock to deliver a T20I series win against Australia in Gros Islet. Chris Gayle was at his absolute best today after failing in a few innings before that. The Jamaican, whose place came under scrutiny, asked fans to respect him after shining in the third T20I.

Chris Gayle hammered 67 off 38 balls to flatten Australia to win the five-match series. As a result, the Jamaican became the first batsman in the shortest format to smash 14000 runs. Before the southpaw’s 38-ball 67, his highest score in recent times was an unbeaten 32 against South Africa. But in the next six innings, the 41-year old could not pass 20 even once as the bowlers had the better of him. It led the fans to question his place in the side.

Chris Gayle remarked that age is only a number as the fans should be happy to see him on the field even when he nears 42. The 41-year old hopes to keep playing cricket as long as possible and advises fans to cherish the moments and respect the Universe Boss.

“Don‘t mind the numbers, Chris Gayle not getting the runs, soon to be 42, you guys should be happy to see Chris Gayle on the field still. Hopefully Chris will last as long as possible. Cherish those moments. Commentators, don‘t put no stats about Chris Gayle not scoring a half-century. Just respect the ‘Universe Boss’,” Gayle said as quoted by News18.com.

Chris Gayle remarked it’s been an incredible journey and is pleased to get a series victory under their belt. The Jamaican understands he struggled and badly needed the runs to keep his place. He went on to credit Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard for helping him get through this tough phase.

“It’s a great journey. I’m so happy and so pleased to get a series win. Congrats to the stand-in captain for achieving this against a great team. From a personal point of view, we all know that I was struggling, so it was pleasing to get runs. I want to dedicate these runs to my teammates, especially Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo,” he added.
