Unreal scenes! Abishek Porel lifts dog after pitch invasion during Delhi Capitals’ practice and does this
Abishek Porel (PC: X)

Abishek Porel, the uncapped Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper batter, was seen engaging with one of the cutest invaders on a cricket pitch. The Bengal batter lifted a dog that invaded the pitch and playfully took him off the ground.

The Delhi Capitals considered having a raw talent on their side for the 2024 edition of the competition. The Capitals will once again be led by Axar Patel, the spin-bowling all-rounder who led them the last time in 2025, but failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Delhi Capitals will kickstart their 2026 IPL campaign against the Lucknow Super Giants. They will play their first match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, the 1st of April. This will be the fifth match of the Indian Premier League.

Abishek Porel playfully guides the 'cutest pitch invader' out of the ground

Abishek Porel, the left-handed batter from Bengal, has always played a massive role for the Delhi Capitals, ever since he was reinstated into the side. Porel was considered on the side as a wicket-keeping choice after Rishabh Pant left the Capitals lineup.

Ahead of the start of the IPL 2026 season, Abishek Porel was seen practising in the nets at Delhi's home ground. During the session, a stray dog invaded the pitch and was undoubtedly one of the cutest moments in the game.

The batter immediately left his bat, bent down and picked the invader up in his lap. He was then seen playfully teasing the dog as he ran him off the pitch. The too-overjoyed dog played with the DC star before leaving the ground.

Abhishek Porel's promising role for the Delhi Capitals

From being a forlorn replacement pick to being a cornerstone in the Delhi Capitals' top order, Abishek Porel has seen it all the way through in the IPL. Though his debut came in 2023, his breakthrough season came in 2024.

He went on to amass 327 runs in the second season after his debut. He played in 14 matches for the Delhi Capitals and averaged nearly 32.70 while also batting at a strike rate of 159.60. He finished the 2024 season with two half-centuries.

The following season, the Bengal wicketkeeper mostly featured as an impact player once KL Rahul took the duties behind the wickets. He went on to score 301 more runs in the previous season while also striking at 146.83.

Will Porel manage a Playing XI spot for the Capitals in IPL 2026?

Abishek Porel has functioned as a top-order specialist on the Delhi Capitals side over all these seasons. The left-hander can still have a very crucial spot in the top order. Prithvi Shaw would once again be seen back with the Capitals.

KL Rahul will also be seen in an opener's role, while Nitish Rana might be an option for them in the middle order. They would also have the likes of all-rounder Axar Patel and their two overseas picks, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs.

While Ashutosh Sharma will add depth to the batting order, Abishek Porel can still play in that batting order as an impact player, but that would significantly disallow the Capitals from using the full strength of their bowling deck.
