Australia defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets in the third and final Test in Sydney to win the series 3-0. David Warner in his farewell Test match scored 57 in the fourth and signed off his test career on a high.

Australia completed another home series win against Pakistan and started 2024 with a win as Pakistan’s losing streak in Test matches in Australia extends to 17 matches. The Aussies needed 130 to win in the fourth innings with Warner scoring 57.

Marnus Labuschagne was unbeaten on 623 while Steve Smith was unbeaten on 4. Off-spinner Sajid Khan took both the Australian wickets to fall in the second innings with Usman Khawaja dismissed for a duck.

Pakistan scored 131 batting first with Mohammad Rizwan top-scoring with 88 runs. Aamer Jamal scored 82 off 97 balls as he played an entertaining innings batting at number nine. Agha Salman also scored 53. Pat Cummins took a fifer with the ball in the first innings and was named the Player of the Series for claiming 19 wickets.

Australia in response was bowled out for 299 in the first innings. Labuschagne top0scored in the first innings with 60 with contributions from other batters as well. Warner scored 34 in the first innings and followed it up with a 57 in the second innings.

Pakistan were bowled out for just 115 in their second innings with Josh Hazlewood taking a four-wicket haul this time. Nathan Lyon took three as Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Travis Head took one each. The Men in Green gave Australia a target of 130 runs which they chased down in less than 26 overs in the second innings and won with 8 wickets to spare.

Warner was given a warm farewell as he returned back to the dugout after his dismissal in the second innings. Australia completed a cleansweep and dethroned India to become the new number one team in the ICC WTC points table 2023-25.

Australia grabbed the crucial two points after their latest win in Sydney in the WTC 2023-35 campaign. They have now won five of the 8 Test matches they have played so far in this cycle. India are placed at number two with two wins from four games. Australia have a PCT point of 56.25 while India have 54.16 points.

South Africa are placed third on the table with 50 PCT points and one win and one loss from two games. New Zealand are placed fourth with 50 PCT points and one win and a loss each out of two games. Bangladesh find themselves fifth on the table with 50- PCT points as well. As of now, Sri Lanka are placed last on the table with no wins in this WTC cycle yet.

Speaking about the AUS vs PAK Test match, Mitchell Match ended with 344 runs in three Test matches the most. David Warner in his final test series ended as the second-highest run-scorer with 299 runs from three matches including a century. Pat Cummins with 19 wickets finished as the top wicket-taker followed by Aamer Jamal with 18 wickets and a brilliant innings of 82 in the first innings.
