The Test series-opening clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25, finished on Sunday, August 25. Under the leadership of Shan Masood, the home team took on visitors led by Najmul Hossain Shanto at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan had announced their playing XI a few days before the match and they decided to field an all-pace attack, hoping for a green-top pitch in Rawalpindi. The visitors, on the other hand, decided to go with a 3-pacers and 2-spinners combination.
Bangladesh won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first in the match. The home team were off to a terrible start as they lost 3 wickets for 16 runs before Saim Ayub and Saud Shakeel stabilised the innings by playing good knocks.
Ayub got out after scoring 56, but Shakeel went on to slam 141 runs. Still, he wasn't the best performer in the first innings as Mohammad Rizwan outshined him with a stellar 171-run knock. Pakistan eventually decided to declare the innings when they were at 448/6.
When it was Bangladesh's turn to bat, they also lost 2 early wickets but never looked in trouble against Pakistan pacers. Notably, the surface didn't provide any help to pacers and run-scoring was quite easy.
The veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim made the most of the conditions and smashed a sensational 191 runs before being dismissed. Also, Shadman Islam (93) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (77) played great innings for the Bangla Tigers, which helped them score 565 runs and take a good lead.
As the Shan Masood-led side team came out to bat next, they lost the first wicket at the score of 5. The wicket-losing didn't stop there as the batters looked clueless against the Bangla spinners. Barring Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 51, no batter fired, which resulted in Pakistan being shockingly bundled out for 146 runs.
Bangladesh got a small target of 30 runs to chase and they did it comfortably. The Bangla Tigers won the match by 10 wickets to register a historic first-ever Test win over Pakistan.
