Australia National Cricket Team batter Usman Khawaja has expressed his disappointment with Queensland Cricket being unaware of his injury ahead of the state's last Sheffield Shield clash, as per reports in Australian media. The batter didn't play the clash against South Australia as he continued to recover from a hamstring and ankle concern.
Usman Khawaja has been battling with a hamstring injury for the last few weeks. Ever since he returned from the Sri Lanka tour, he has been struggling with his hamstring and ankle. Some reports claimed that the batter was scheduled to play the match with the team in the race for the final.
Usman Khawaja clears he was privately working to rehabilitate his hamstring
Khawaja recently posted a picture of attending the Formula 1 Grand Prix after missing the match. This didn't go well with many, especially Australian great Ian Healy, who lashed out at the batter for missing the game in Sheffield Shield.
Khawaja recently posted a video then in which he claimed that he was privately working to rehabilitate his hamstring, but his withdrawal from the match still has many confused.
Our medical staff said all the way through he has been available for selection - Queensland Cricket boss Joe Dawes on Usman Khawaja
However, Queensland Cricket boss Joe Dawes said that their medical staff cleared Usman Khawaja to play the games. He said that there wasn't any issue with the batter, and it was disappointing to see that the senior batter didn't play for his state.
"Our medical staff said all the way through he has been available for selection. That is my understanding from Cricket Australia staff as well - no hamstring issues as far as we are concerned. I go off our medical staff and there is no reason why he could not have played the last game.
"It's just disappointing he didn't play a game for Queensland when he had an opportunity to. I have got a bunch of blokes here that all want to play. I think we are disappointed he did not play the game against South Australia.
Hopefully, he will make that decision to make himself available for next week - Joe Dawes
Joe Dawes further mentioned that it was a decision of Usman Khawaja and they are hopeful that he will make himself available for the next game. Speaking about the same, he said:
"That's the decision he made, and he has communicated some of the reasons for that to the public. Hopefully, he will make that decision to make himself available for next week, and we will make that decision on Friday."
Khawaja looked in great touch with the bat in the Sri Lanka series. If he plays in the next game of the Shield, it will be a great opportunity for him to play in the final of the ICC World Test Championship final, which will be played between Australia and South Africa.
