Quetta Gladiators have faced a major blow amid the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. Spinner Usman Tariq was reported for suspect bowling action during the game against Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Usman Tariq's bowling action was reported by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown. The spinner, however, won't be banned from the league, but if his bowling action is reported yet again, he will be suspended and will have to get clearance from the ICC.
If he is reported again, he will be suspended from bowling - PCB on Usman Tariq
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released an official statement about the same, confirming that he will be banned from the league if his bowling action gets reported once again. The statement from the governing body read:
"Quetta Gladiators spinner Usman Tariq was reported by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Chris Brown for a suspect bowling action during his side’s HBL PSL X match against Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday evening
“As per the rules, Usman can continue to bowl in future matches. However, if he is reported again, he will be suspended from bowling and will need to obtain clearance from an ICC-accredited lab before he can resume bowling.”
Usman Tariq was reported for a suspected bowling action last year as well
This is, however, not the first time that Usman Tariq has been reported for his bowling action. During the last edition of the league, he reported for a suspected bowling action. The spinner played 5 games last year and bagged just two wickets.
But this year, Usman Tariq has been decent with the ball. The spinner played a key role in Quetta Gladiators' win against Peshawar Zalmi. He returned with the figures of 2/26. In the game against Lahore Qalandars, Tariq picked one wicket and gave away 31 runs as his team went on to lose the game.
I think we did not select a better team and our strength is spin - Saud Shakeel
Quetta Gladiators skipper Saud Shakeel talked about the win, admitting that they didn't select a great team. He also said that they will learn from their mistakes and will come back better in the next game. Speaking after the game, he said:
"I think we did not select a better team and our strength is spin. You have to give their batters credit too. Fakhar at the top, Mitchell in the middle and at the end Billings. We have a few issues and need to sort it out before the next game.
"We know Shaheen is a strike bowler, the plan was not to give him wickets, we lost early wickets and it's not easy to chase it down when that happens. We will try to do less mistakes in the next game. Always favours the batters in Pindi, last match it was not helpful for the batters but today it was a typical Pindi pitch."
