Vaibhav Sooryavanshi set to enter IPL 2027 auction? England ‘GOAT’ makes bold claim
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi first entered public consciousness in 2024, when he made a century on his Under-19 Test debut. Against Australia in Chennai, he reached his century in just 58 balls, making it the second-fastest century of all time in Youth Tests. He was just 13 years old at the time.
Later that year, Rajasthan Royals signed him for ₹1.1 crore, making him the youngest player to be signed in the IPL. As part of RR, he became the youngest player to score a T20 century as he made a 35-ball century in IPL 2025. Since then, records have flown from his bat just as easily as sixes.
Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad has now talked about what the future could entail for Sooryavanshi at RR and the IPL auction in general.
"He might just leave for the Mumbai Indians" - Broad
Stuart Broad was speaking on the 'For the Love of Cricket' podcast, which he hosts alongside former England teammate Jos Buttler.
Broad said that the Rajasthan Royals had taken a bold choice by signing the then-13-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
"Fair play to Rajasthan Royals' scouting system or academy system-whatever they have done. I remember when they signed him at the auction - he was 14, maybe even 13 - and I thought it was a bit odd for top-flight domestic cricket to bring in someone so young. That's a lot of pressure, just having him around the squad for three years. What's the point of that? It's not as if you can sign him on a 10-year contract; he might just leave for the Mumbai Indians or something if given the opportunity", Broad said.
"I mean, to be fair, when he walks into his next player retention, he can go into the auction, if he wants", he added.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in IPL 2026
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has put all worries to rest in IPL 2026 by avoiding a case of second-season blues. From 9 innings, he has 400 runs at an average of 44.44 and a strike rate of 238. He has also made 2 fifties and a century this season.
All three of his fifties have come in just 15 balls, whereas his century was in 36 balls. Currently, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is third on the Orange Cap list, which is being very closely contested this season. He has already held the Orange Cap on multiple occasions this season.
His 37 sixes are also the highest this season.

Rajasthan Royals' next match
Currently fourth on the points table, RR have 6 wins from 9 matches. They will face the Delhi Capitals in Jaipur on May 1 in their next match.
In fact, two of RR's next three matches are against DC. Rajasthan have reason to be buoyant, as they snapped Punjab Kings' unbeaten streak in their last match.
As of now, three teams are tied on 12 points on the IPL 2026 points table. If past matches are an indication, RR will need the full might of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's powers to break out of the traffic.
