The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is in the third round of matches. On Tuesday, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be hosting the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. RR opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been one of the findings of the IPL last season. The young, flamboyant batter has been known for his aggressive batting.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will be up against the best bowling attack of IPL 2026. He will be seen against the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Deepak Chahar, and possibly Trent Boult on the night. If Trent Boult plays the veteran pacer can really cause trouble for the batter with his early swing and the habit of picking wickets in the first over.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to join MI in the future
Ahead of the match, the former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selector, Jatin Paranjape, has dropped a massive comment on the young batter. The former selector believes that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will join MI in the upcoming years. MI has been one of the teams that have scouted some of the best cricketers from the grassroots.

Jatin Paranjape said that "Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will play against his future team tonight." This is a clear indication that MI might be interested in the young talent from Bihar and might trade him from the Royals in later years, or even if he is released during the auction, MI might buy him for a hefty price.
Vaibhav looks to dismantle the bowling attack
Vaibhav will look to firepower alongside his opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, in today’s match. The intent with which Vaibhav Sooryavanshi plays leaves everyone awestruck; at 15, he has phenomenal bat speed and has been one of the finest upcoming cricketers in India. He was picked by RR in the mega auction for a price of INR 1.10 crore.
Ahead of last year's mini-auction, the 15-year-old prodigy was retained by the Royals. At such a young age, the former cricketer and pundits are dumbfounded by the way he hits the ball with ease out of the park. This talent was displayed in IPL 2025 when he struck the first ball six against Shardul Thakur.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a generational talent
Vaibhav has the record of becoming the youngest centurion at 14 years and 32 days old. Representing Rajasthan Royals, he smashed a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans, marking the second-fastest ton in IPL history. He is renowned for his rapid scoring, including a 15-ball fifty in 2026.
Vaibhav has been in sensational form since the U-19 World Cup, when he became the Player of the Tournament, scoring 439 runs in the tournament and 175 off 80 balls in the final against England. This was the highest individual score in a U-19 World Cup final and the highest by an Indian in the tournament's history, featuring 15 sixes and 15 fours.
However, the battle between the great Jasprit Bumrah will be different, as Bumrah has been the greatest bowler in all formats and is wicketless in two games for MI. He would come all guns blazing, and this would be a test of nerve for the 15-year-old batter against the quality of Bumrah.
