Varun Chakravarthy has taken a sly dig at the selectors after being ignored for the upcoming T20I series between India and Zimbabwe. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel announced the squad for the five-match series on Monday (June 24).

Team India are scheduled to play five T20Is against Zimbabwe next month. With the series to take place right after the conclusion of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024, the selectors have named a second-string team. Only two players from the World Cup squad have been named in the squad for the Zimbabwe assignment.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson, who are in the World Cup squad, have been named in the squad for the upcoming series. Both the players have not played a single game in the World Cup so far and are unlikely to find a spot in the playing eleven for the remaining games.

Shubman Gill has been named the captain for the upcoming series. The squad also features as many as five uncapped players - Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Tushar Deshpande. The other players in the squad are the usual suspects such as Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, and Avesh Khan.

Varun Chakravarthy reacts after latest snub:

Varun Chakravarthy must have been fancying a recall from the Indian team after his starring display in this year's IPL. While he could not find a spot in the World Cup squad, he would have hoped for a place in the second-string team for the Zimbabwe series after playing a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders' triumphant campaign in IPL 2024.

He finished the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker. Varun Chakravarthy had picked up 21 wickets in the tournament and only Harshal Patel (24) had more wickets than him. However, the selectors have decided against recalling him for the upcoming assignment.

And soon after the squad was announced, Varun Chakravarthy decided to take a dig at the selectors with a cryptic post. He took to Instagram to post a story in which he blamed his poor luck on not having a PR agency.

"I wish I had a paid PR agency," wrote the spinner.
