The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Smriti Mandhana as the new captain for the India Women’s National Cricket Team ahead of the next series. She takes over from Harmanpreet Kaur, who stepped down as the captain earlier today. Mandhana will look to carry on the legacy from where Harmanpreet left the side.

As per reports, BCCI wanted Harmanpreet Kaur only to step down from the T20I role and continue with the ODI and Test leadership. But she did not accept it and stepped down from all formats. She will continue as a player for the side and also share her leadership experience with Smriti, who has been her deputy for a very long time.
