Former Indian women’s team coach and off-spinner Ramesh Powar has been appointed as the coach of the Mumbai Team by MCA ahead of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Amit Pagnis was the coach of the Mumbai team during the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and due to the dismal performance from the team, he stepped down from being the coach of Mumbai.
Ramesh Powar featured in 2 tests and 31 ODIs for India scalping 6 and 34 wickets respectively. He was preferred mostly when Harbhajan was going through a rough patch. He was a useful batsman down the order but he had a lot of fitness issues and hence lost his place in the team. He fared out decently as the coach of the Indian Women’s cricket team and now the Mumbai team will be under his reigns.

Powar Looking To Create A Positive Environment
Ramesh Powar told that he is looking forward to creating a positive environment on the side and allowing them to play a positive brand of cricket. He was being grateful to the MCA and CIC for trusting his abilities as a coach and he will now be preparing the team for their next assignment in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
“I am grateful to the MCA and CIC for trusting my abilities. I am looking forward to creating a positive environment in the side and playing a positive brand of cricket for which Mumbai is always known. I am looking forward to the assignments ahead,” Powar told Cricbuzz.

Mumbai Team To Be Picked Tomorrow
Chief selector Salil Ankola stated the Mumbai team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be picked on Wednesday. Indian prolific batsman Shreyas Iyer has confirmed that he will take part in the tournament and Salil Ankola was happy to welcome Iyer’s availability for the Mumbai team. He revealed that Shreyas Iyer will captain the Mumbai side.
“That’s what he has told us. It’s good for the team that Shreyas is available. Now that the coach issue has also been settled, we will pick the squad tomorrow (February 10), Iyer will now lead the side,” the former India pacer Salil Ankola said.
