Vipraj Nigam files FIR after receiving death threats and blackmail calls from foreign numbers

Delhi Capitals (DC) cricketer Vipraj Nigam has filed a police complaint after allegedly receiving threatening and blackmail calls from a woman using multiple international phone numbers. According to reports, the harassment had been ongoing for more than two months, with the caller making repeated demands.
Vipraj was one of Delhi Capitals’ biggest positives in the IPL 2025 season, showcasing his all-round abilities. The 21-year-old picked up 11 wickets in 14 matches and scored 142 runs. His consistent performances have put him in strong contention for retention ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 mini-auction.
Vipraj Nigam Files FIR After Months of Harassment and Blackmail Threats from Woman
Vipraj Nigam has lodged an FIR after facing months of harassment and threats from a woman who allegedly tried to blackmail him. According to his complaint, the caller made repeated demands and even threatened to leak a video if he did not comply.
Vipraj, a resident of Awas Vikas Colony in Barabanki, stated that the harassment began in September 2025. "Initially, the calls were made from a mobile number, but after I blocked it, the same person began using several foreign numbers to harass me," he said.
After he blocked her initial number, the woman continued contacting him through several international numbers, sending abusive messages and threatening calls. The case was officially registered at the Kotwali Nagar police station late on Saturday night.
Police Register FIR Under BNS Sections 351(3) and 352 Following Vipraj Nigam’s Complaint
On Sunday afternoon, Vipraj Nigam filed a formal complaint at the Nagar Kotwali police station around 4 PM. According to the complaint, the accused woman allegedly tried to extort him by threatening to file false criminal cases and circulate fake videos on social media to damage his image.
Following his complaint, the police registered an FIR under BNS sections 351(3) for criminal intimidation and 352 for insult and provocation of breach of peace. The accused has been identified as Richa Purohit. Authorities are currently working to trace the accused and verify the legitimacy of the threats.
Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya confirmed that an investigation is underway. Officers at Nagar Kotwali, led by Sudhir Kumar Singh, have begun reviewing call records, digital evidence, and the source of the international numbers used to contact the player.

Vipraj Nigam and his family are extremely troubled by the continuous harassment and the potential misuse of his personal information. The cricketer has appealed to the authorities for immediate intervention to stop any further harm to his reputation.
Police officials have assured that the case is being treated with urgency and that strict legal action will follow once the evidence is fully examined.
The incident has also drawn attention within the cricket fraternity, raising concerns over the increasing number of cyber harassment and blackmail cases involving professional athletes.
"A case has been registered based on the cricketer’s complaint. Call details and digital evidence are being examined. The matter is under investigation," Nagar Kotwal Sudhir Kumar Singh said.
