Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh's father, Yograj Singh, has made a startling claim about the legendary Indian players, saying that they were insecure about Yuvraj Singh taking over their roles in the Indian team with the calibre he had with both bat and ball.

Controversies surrounding the cricket team have surfaced recently as several former cricketers, from successful all-rounder Irfan Pathan to recently retired Amit Mishra, have all made audacious claims on Indian veterans and captains, accusing them of ending their international careers abruptly.

Now, a controversial figure in Indian cricket, Yograj Singh, made some huge remarks indirectly blaming many big names for his son Yuvraj's international retirement back in 2017.

Could Kohli have helped Yuvraj Singh prolong his International career?

Yuvraj Singh played for most of his career under the veteran skipper Sourav Ganguly, under whom he had made his debut, and then under former rival MS Dhoni. His international career ended under new captain Virat Kohli, when he took over as India's full-time skipper in 2017.

"As I told you, there are no friends in the sphere of success, money and glory. There were always backstabbers, people who wanted to put you down," said Yuvraj's father, as quoted by InsideSport, Yograj Singh, when questioned if Kohli could have prolonged Yuvraj's ODI career.

"People were scared of Yuvraj Singh because they were afraid that he would usurp their seats because he was such a great player created by God Almighty," Yograj Singh's massive claim.

"He has been the greatest of players, who they were scared of—right from MS Dhoni, everybody – ‘oh he might take my chair,'" he concluded.

Yuvraj Singh's massive contribution to India's ICC titles under MS Dhoni

Yuvraj was part of the MS Dhoni-led side in the first-ever ICC T20 World Cup squad of 2007, where he played a crucial role in the middle order and scored runs on several crucial occasions. He was among the very few experienced players in that team.

Yuvraj hit his record of 6 sixes in a single over of a match against Stuart Broad in this tournament. Next, he also played in the ICC ODI World Cup of 2011, where he ended as the Player of the Tournament.

He amassed 362 runs, averaging over 90 with a hundred and four half-centuries, while he also picked 15 wickets with the ball.

A glimpse of Yuvraj's international career

Yuvraj Singh, the legendary left-handed middle-order batter and slow left-arm orthodox spinner, is often regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game. Referred to as the Man with the Golden Arm, he played for India between 2000 and 2017.

Though Singh did not have a prolonged stay in the Test team, he was a regular in the white-ball sides for India and was among the few pre-Dhoni era players inculcated into the T20I side when MS Dhoni was named the skipper of the side ahead of the first World Cup.

He played in 304 ODI matches in his career spanning nearly 15 years, in which he amassed 8701 runs at an average of 36.55 with 14 centuries and 50+ half-centuries. He also picked up 111 wickets in one-day cricket.

With 1900 Test runs and 1177 runs in T20Is, Singh amassed 11,778 runs in his career, along with 17 hundreds, and picked 148 wickets.
