The likes of Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma, Rohit Sharma, and Umesh Yadav were all ecstatic as India reached the ICC World Test Championship’s final. The Indian team did so by beating England on day three of the fourth Test in Ahmedabad by an innings and 25 runs. In the process, they also climbed to the top of the Test rankings.
India bounced back from being 0-1 in the four-match Test series against England. Virat Kohli’s men ended the last three Tests as quickly as they could as the tourists struggled against the home side’s quality spin-bowling. India will meet New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship’s final in June at Lord’s or Southampton in England.
Virat Kohli remarked that they feel relieved to reach the World Test Championship’s final as the hard work in the last couple of years has paid off. The Indian captain underlined that they have to get together again in a few months for the big stage and they are excited about it.
“We are quite relived now that we’ve made it to the final. If you look at the last two years how we’ve played, we deserve to be in the final. Now it’s just about getting together as a group again and focussing on that one big game which is quite exciting for all of us,” Kohli said in a video posted by the BCCI.
Cheteshwar Pujara confident of India winning the final:
India’s number three in Tests Cheteshwar Pujara credited the team for working incredibly hard in the last couple of years and feel proud to be part of such an outfit. The Saurashtra batsman remains hopeful of their chances in the tournament-decider and if all goes well, they would be unstoppable.
“The boys have worked really hard, it’s been more than two years since this began. As an individual I can feel it for the team that all of us are very proud. We are very hopeful that we will do well in the final. It’s an amazing feeling for all of us to qualify for the WTC final. We are very confident that we can pull it off,” he added.
