Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has sent a warning to Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and others to be wary of the threat posed by Mitchell Starc.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be facing their left-arm nightmare that is Mitchell Starc when India takes on Australia in their last Super 8 game. This is going to be the Indian team's biggest challenge as of yet in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies. Before the second round, Rohit's men were drawn into a very easy Group in the first round.
The Men in Blue won all the matches against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA while their 4th group match against Canada got washed out. In the Super 8s, the only strong team they have faced is Afghanistan. But the real test is going to be against the Aussies who will be determined to win tonight after losing their match against the Afghans yesterday.
Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has already given a warning sign to the Indian team that they are coming for the win and those crucial two points. Australia's main game plan is going to be against the top 2 batters - Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two players who are very important for positive starts.
Notably, both of them have struggled against high-quality left-arm seamers and Mitchell Starc is expected to cause a lot of problems today. If Starc gets their wickets early on, then Australia will try to capitalize on the pressure and do something similar to what they had done in the ODI WC final last year.
Aakash Chopra highlights Indian batters' struggle against qualified left-arm pace
While speaking in his latest YouTube video, Aakash Chopra highlighted the struggle of Indian batsmen against quality left-arm seamers. Therefore, Chopra believes that Mitchell Starc is going to be a huge threat to the team of India, especially when he has the new ball in hand.
Other than Mitchell Starc, Aakash Chopra believes that Pat Cummins will be an equal threat for India as he is coming at the back to consecutive hat-tricks. Cummins first scalped 3 wickets in a row against Bangladesh in Australia's opening Super 8 match and then against Afghanistan yesterday.
"Mitchell Starc will be a threat with the new ball just because it's the World Cup. Left-arm pacers and Indian batters haven't been a good story. However, we are expecting that threat to be neutralized slightly. Then Pat Cummins is a serious threat. He has taken hat-tricks in the last two matches. He is doing incredible things." - Chopra said in his latest YT video.
Chopra reveals Australia's bowling plan against India
Aakash Chopra then shed light on the bowling combination of Australia. The former opener claimed that Mitchell Starc will find the support of Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, Marcus Stoinis, and Glenn Maxwell. Chopra believes Ashton Agar will not find a spot in the XI later today.
"From the bowling perspective, I feel Mitchell Starc will play here. Ashton Agar won't play. He was played in the last match. Here, you will have Mitchell Starc and along with him Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Adam Zampa. Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell will together bowl four overs." - Aakash Chopra concluded.
