Former India National Cricket Team skipper Kapil Dev opened up about when Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should retire from the game of cricket. He said that if both the premier batters stay fit they can play for as long as they want to.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, no doubt, are two of the best cricketers that the India National Cricket Team has produced. What they have done for Indian cricket has been exceptional, and because of that, they have already earned the title of 'Legends of Indian Cricket'.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the backbone of the India National Cricket Team for more than the last decade. Irrespective of the format, they have maintained high standards and are two of the main reasons why the Indian team is the most dominating team in the world of cricket.

It's fair to say that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are at the fag end of their career and might hang up their boots soon. Both the players have called their retirement from the T20Is and now will be focussing just on the ODIs and the Test cricket for the India National Cricket Team.

Virat Kohli, 35, and Rohit Sharma, 36, even in their late 30s, are giving their best for the team in the two formats. They still hold the key for the team, and when they play well, there are very few chances that the India National Cricket Team will end up losing the game as they ensure that they win the game for the team.

The presence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is extremely crucial for the team because the team is going through a transition phase. Their experience is vital for the youngsters, who currently are taking over the charge of the team. The players in Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and others look up to them and they also help them a lot.

My way of thinking is to stay fit and keep playing as long as you are enjoying the game - Kapil Dev on the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Kapil Dev, while talking about the retirement of two pioneers of Indian cricket, stated that the age between 26 and 34 is when the players hit their prime. He, while citing the example of Ravi Shastri and Sachin Tendulkar, stated that after 34, fitness plays a huge role in the longevity of the players.

"In my opinion, the period between 26 and 34 years is your prime and thereafter the fitness of the players will ensure their longevity,"

"Ravi Shastri retired at a very early age while Sachin Tendulkar had a longer stint. So it is completely up to the individual to decide their ways of life. My way of thinking is to stay fit and keep playing as long as you are enjoying the game," Kapil was quoted as saying on MyKhel.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are currently part of the Indian Team for the ongoing Test series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. They failed to make a mark in the opening game and would be keen to make an impact in the second game in Kanpur, to be played from 27th September.
