Virat Kohli had a memorable ICC World Cup 2023 campaign for India. He finished as the top run-getter with 765 runs in 11 matches an average of 95.62. The only blemish was that his efforts could not help India to win the World Cup.

The next World Cup is in 2027 and in South Africa. Virat Kohli will turn 39 by that time. While Rohit Sharma has reportedly said to the BCCI that he is not keen on playing T20I cricket anymore there have been no such comments from Virat Kohli on his immediate future.

The senior players including Kohli and Rohit have been rested for India’s ongoing T20I series against Australia at home. Both are expected to be back in the Test series against South Africa in December.

Virat Kohli Can Surely Play The World Cup in 2027: Salman Butt

Meanwhile, former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt said that Kohli can play in the World Cup in 2027 given how fit he is as a player.

“With how fit Virat Kohli is and the dedication with which he plays, I don’t see any reason why he won’t play for another four years. With his fitness and intensity, he can surely play even when he is 38 years old,” said Butt on his Youtube channel.

Kohli broke a plethora of records with the bat in this World Cup The biggest of them was that he overtook Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 673 runs that he scored in the 2003 World Cup. Kohli’s 765 is now the highest number of runs by any batter in any edition of the World Cup.

Salman Butt also kept his opinion on Rohit Sharma’s future. He said that the Indian skipper should concentrate on playing Tests and ODIs from here on. Rohit has not featured in any T20Is for India since losing the T20 World Cup final to England in 2022.

“Rohit Sharma cannot be compared to any other player. However, after spending a lot of time in international cricket, maybe he feels he should now concentrate more on Tests and ODIs. There is a lot of hustle and bustle in T20 cricket. However, a player like him would not have much trouble, as this format is a lot easier than Tests and ODIs,” Butt said on Rohit.

While Kohli top-scored with 765 runs, Rohit finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the World Cup with 597 runs in 11 matches at an average of 54.27 and a strike rate of almost 130. He hit 31 sixes in the tournament, the most in this year’s World Cup.
