Former India National Cricket Team player and the current Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach, Sanjay Bangar, has said that when the modern-day batting legend Virat Kohli returns to the field in Asia Cup “he will be starting afresh”.
Former India National Cricket Team captain Virat Kohli will return to action in the Asia Cup 2022, which will be played in the UAE from August 27, after a break of over a month. Notably, he was rested for the white tours of the West Indies and Zimbabwe.
After the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Kohli participated only in one assignment for India, the tour of England, which ended on a forgettable note. Across 6 innings the star batter registered the highest score of 20.
Speaking in a YouTube video posted by Star Sports, Bangar said:
“He will be starting afresh. He has had numerous breaks in between as well, but those weren’t meant to be defined as break. Here, he has taken a three-week off, he went away from the game.”
The best Virat Kohli has played is when he is being himself – Sanjay Bangar
The Royal Challengers Bangalore head coach Bangar further revealed that Kohli didn’t want to talk about the game throughout his recent break from cricket.
“He didn’t want to talk about it. From that perspective, in his mind, the way he wants to play is very clear. The best Virat Kohli has played is when he is being himself.
“There’s no point in him trying to be an athlete or human being which the world wants to see. What’s more important is what he wants to see in himself. In that, he is very very clear,” Bangar further said.
Meanwhile, in their tournament opener, the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team are set to lock horns with Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, August 28. Also, Kohli is set to become the first Indian player in history to play 100 international games across all three formats.
