Young Indian batter Rinku Singh had often been trolled for chasing Virat Kohli for bats during the Indian Premier League (IPL). Now, ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, Rinku Singh has opened up on how he felt irritated watching the videos of him with Virat Kohli.

The IPL has often produced unforgettable moments, but one incident involving Rinku and Kohli grabbed more attention than the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter would have liked. Last season, the videos of Rinku repeatedly asking Kohli for bats spread like wildfire across social media.

It all began when Rinku broke a bat gifted to him by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) icon. So, the Indian batter turned once again to Kohli. However, the former Indian captain initially denied giving Rinki another one but eventually handed over another.

It was a light-hearted exchange between the two batters, but it quickly became a sensation on social media, with fans trolling him for being after Kohli for bats all the time. The left-handed batter has now revealed that the cameraman’s constant focus on them made the situation worse.

Later, a normal interaction between Rinku and Kohli became meme material, which left the Uttar Pradesh cricketer feeling that his and even the RCB icon’s images were unfairly dragged into unnecessary social media drama.

I became infamous because of the bat: Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh was quoted as saying by News24 Sports, “Main thoda zyada badnaam ho gaya tha bat ke chakkar mai (I became infamous because of the bat). I used to meet him (Kohli) normally and then asked for a bat. The cameraman would follow me. It wasn’t being perceived well. It wasn’t good for me and Bhaiya (Kohli) either, as videos of the bat were going viral.”

However, in the IPL 2025 season, Rinku was not seen with Kohli much, but another youngster from Uttar Pradesh, Swastik Chikara, quickly grabbed attention. Chikara became the talk of social media after he was constantly seen behind the former India captain.

Rinku further added, “For Chikara, it was a big deal to be around such a big player. He became his shadow. He learned a lot from him.”

Rinku Singh adds MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma's bats to his special collection; reveals his heartfelt gesture

The Indian batter revealed that he managed to get two bats from two of the biggest names in Indian cricket, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, during the IPL 2025.

He added, “I wasn’t seen with Virat Bhai this time (IPL 2025). I did get Mahi bhai’s bat and Rohit bhai’s bat. It’s a big deal for me getting the bats from such players.”

However, Rinku doesn’t just keep all the bats for himself but often gifts them to players who really need them, especially those who don’t have contracts or sponsors.

He signed off by saying, “I have given a lot of bats myself. I do give bats to those who need them, but those who have contracts, I don’t.”
