Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt believes Virat Kohli had already set such high expectations for himself that even his half-centuries go unremarked.
Kohli, 33, has had a bad patch in recent months, particularly after scoring three golden ducks for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Virat Kohli resigned as captain of the Indian team in all three forms from October to January. In addition, ahead of the 2022 IPL, Faf du Plessis took over as RCB captain.
Kohli has decided to rest for India’s next T20I series against South Africa after struggling in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Virat Kohli scored 341 runs in 16 games in IPL 2022, with a strike rate of 115.98 and an average of 22.73.
‘Virat has set such high standards for himself”: Salman Butt
Salman Butt praised Kohli, for establishing himself in a leadership role after hitting runs at will at all levels since his debut in 2008.
“Those who know the game realize Kohli is an institution in his own right.” Butt added on his own YouTube channel, “He has an excellent presence as an athlete, as a bat, and as a leader because of the manner he has accomplished and sculpted himself into a role model.”
“Virat has set such high expectations for himself that he has gone unrecognized in eight of his last 14 outings. People believe he is out of form since he has developed a tendency of scoring centuries. He will return to form for the betterment of cricket,” he remarked.
Salman Butt, who represented Pakistan more than a decade ago, believes it is critical for the nation’s finest players to keep in shape.
“The elite players, (Joe) Root, Virat Kohli, Babar (Azam), and Kane Williamson, must stay in shape because they are lead to great.” They are idolized by budding cricketers,” Butt continued.
India will host South Africa for five Twenty20 Internationals from June 9 to June 19.
