Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane attended the virtual press-conference on the eve of the second Test against England in Chennai where he was asked several questions including his thoughts on captain Virat Kohli’s comments regarding the player’s body language on the field during their 227-run mauling at the hand of Joe Root’s men.

India was beaten comprehensively in the opening Test of the four-match series in Chennai by the visiting English team. This was India’s second defeat on home soil in the last eight years and their first since losing to Australia by 333 runs in Pune during the 2017 rubber.

After the morale-shellacking defeat, skipper Virat Kohli expressed his displeasure at the body language of his players during the first two days where England batsmen piled on the agony on what was a pretty docile surface at the Chepauk.

”Our body language and intensity was not up to the mark, second innings we were much better. We were better in the second half of the first innings with the bat, not the first four batters. We have to understand the things that we have done decently in this game and the things that we haven’t and as a side we are always looking to improve,” Virat Kohli had said in the post-match presentation.

Ajinkya Rahane was asked about his views on the same in the virtual presser on Friday. And, the vice-captain replied that the lack of energy in the field was not due to Virat returning as skipper. He asserted that Virat Kohli will continue to be his captain and that the journalist who had asked the question will not get any controversy out of him.

“It is not always possible to have the same sort of energy on the field. The lack of energy sometimes on the field in the first Test was not due to Virat Kohli returning as skipper. Virat Kohli is and will continue to be my captain. Kuch masala nahi milega yahan (You won’t get any controversy here),” Rahane said during a virtual press conference.

Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane will be looking to shrug off the disappointment of the first game where he managed just 1 run across two innings when he takes guard in the second Test.
