"Virat is high octane, he's a Ferrari." Matthew Hayden lauds Virat Kohli's fiery presence on the field
Several cricketers have gathered to heap praise on the Indian legend, Virat Kohli, on his return to international cricket. Even Australian legend Matthew Hayden has heaped praise on the second-highest ODI run-getter.
Matthew Hayden has, this time, not only lauded Kohli as a cricketer but also gone on to praise him for his character on the field. Kohli is known to reflect some radiant charm every time he takes the field. Hayden compared him to a "Ferrari" while claiming that he is "unbelievably good."
"Virat is high octane, he's a Ferrari. He's full noise; he'll be gesturing to the crowd. You'll have Jiostar that'll be focusing on everything he does on the cricket field. And everything is so big that it's hard not to polarise your views on it because he's so bloody good," Hayden said on All Over Bar The Cricket YouTube channel.
"In my head, I've got him focusing on 2027 ( World Cup)" - Hayden
The batting maestro has kept himself detached from the game for a long time since he last played in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He has, however, expressed his desire to feature in the 2027 ICC World Cup, but the decision doesn't seem to be in the hands of the great cricketer any longer, since the dynamics of Indian cricket are changing.
However, Ajit Agarkar had pointed out that both Rohit and Virat have remained non-committal about participating in the next World Cup in 2027. The Aussie legend once again hailed Kohli for his record-breaking stats in ODI cricket and his elite fitness standards despite his age.
"He has played 302 matches and got 14,000 runs and what about this average in One-day cricket, it's unbelievable. His key is that he is a gold star with his fitness and preparation. In my head, I've got him focusing on 2027 ( World Cup). He wants to be a part of that," Hayden added.
Matthew Hayden is one of the visionaries behind the 'Test Twenty' format
The Test Twenty is a fourth format of cricket that has recently been introduced to revolutionize cricket and to provide youngsters with a global platform to showcase their talent. The format involves a blend of Test and T20I cricket, with 80 overs being played over a single day, with 2 innings each for the two teams.
Now alongside former South African AB de Villiers, legendary Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, and West Indies legendary captain Sir Clive Lloyd, Australian batter Matthew Hayden is also one of the cornerstones of the widely discussed step taken to modernize and develop cricket for future generations.
