Former KKR captain Sourav Ganguly feels that Gautam Gambhir is a very good candidate for the India head coach role but he also gave a warning to the World Cup winner.

The Indian head coaching role is being widely talked about in the Indian cricketing fraternity as the BCCI awaits to appoint their new coach after June. The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies is going to be the final assignment for Rahul Dravid's coaching entourage and it is likely that the new coach will be unveiled in July.

At the moment, Gautam Gambhir stands as the front-runner for the job with no other candidates opening up as of now. After the BCCI Honorable Secretary Jay Shah had confirmed that the board is not looking to hire any foreign coach, the talk of Gambhir taking over from Rahul Dravid is catching heat with each passing day.

Sourav Ganguly claims Gautam Gambhir is a very good candidate

While speaking to RevSportz in an exclusive interview, Sourav Ganguly had an in-depth chat about various different things related to Indian cricket. He was also asked to share his views on how good of a candidate Gautam Gambhir is for the coaching role. Ganguly started off by saying that Gambhir is passionate about the sport and that he is a very honest and blunt personality.

Sourav Ganguly then mentioned that mentoring and coaching a cricket team has a lot of difference but coaching an international team is even more different. That coaching a high-profile team like India is a different ball game but he is very sure that Gautam Gambhir is aware of it and that he will be able to carry out the job very well.

"He is passionate, he is honest...he is a very good candidate. There is indeed a difference between coaching or mentoring a franchise, and coaching an international team, that too a high-profile team like India. But I am sure Gautam will know it and is aware of it," Ganguly said via RevSportz.

Ganguly says Gambhir can handle Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Sourav Ganguly then expressed his confidence towards Gautam Gambhir being able to handle the pressure very well. Ganguly feels that Gambhir will be able to manage senior figures like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and also adapt to the team culture easily.

Ganguly then mentioned the importance of being a coach and how the personality is responsible for the development of the other's lives. Therefore, Sourav Ganguly precisely asked the BCCI to choose the candidate wisely.

"He will know how to deal with stars like Virat and Rohit, and will surely adapt himself to the culture of the change room. It is not just about pushing your own thoughts. He will, I am sure, think and carry the change room with himself."
