Virat Kohli namedropped as Lakshya Sen clears his intentions for Indian badminton

India's rising badminton star Lakshya Sen recently revealed his ambitions to become the "Virat Kohli of Indian badminton" in the coming years.

Lakshya recently missed the bronze medal in the Paris Olympics 2024 and finished fourth in the men's singles category of the competition. But despite missing out on a medal, the 23-year-old was lauded for his stupendous effort against some of the best in the world.

Lakshya was the only unseeded player to qualify for the semi-finals. His effort was acknowledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who gave the youngster's example to never give up regardless of the obstacles.

Lakshya Sen dreams of becoming the "Virat Kohli of Indian badminton"

During a podcast with TRS, Lakshya spoke about his ambitions for the future. The youngster was focused in his approach as he claimed that he wanted to be the "Virat Kohli of Indian badminton."

"I want to be the Virat Kohli of Indian badminton in the coming years - he has done a lot for Indian cricket," Sen said on TRS podcast.

In the Paris Olympics 2024, Lakshya Sen also became the first Indian male badminton player to make it to the semi-finals in the Olympic Games. The talented player had a fabulous tournament until the semi-finals and is expected to improve his performance in the next edition.

Virat Kohli an inspiration for every evolving athlete

Meanwhile, Kohli is easily the biggest name in world cricket currently. Since his arrival, he has established himself as one of the pioneers in Indian cricket.

The 35-year-old has won numerous games for India on his own. Kohli's dedication and temperament are unparalleled as he keeps on inspiring the upcoming generations.

Even at 35, Kohli is still among the fittest cricketers in the world and gives tough competition to the youngsters. His game has kept on evolving over the years which is the reason why he keeps inspiring players from different fields as well.

Retirement from T20I cricket

Kohli announced his retirement from T20I cricket after India's T20 World Cup 2024 win at Barbados in June this year. Kohli played a match-winning knock in the final against South Africa under immense pressure and showed the mental resolve to perform at a big stage.

Kohli's next international assignment will be the Test series against Bangladesh, which will begin on September 19 in Chennai. Afterward, he is also likely to play in the three-match Test series against New Zealand at home.

But his biggest Test will be the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in which India will be aiming to complete a hat-trick of Test series wins in Australia. It was under Kohli that India defeated Australia in 2018-19.
