Virat Kohli Out; 6 Indians, 3 Afghanistan players feature in ICC Team of the Tournament for T20 World Cup 2024

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 featured exciting matches and standout performances, with the India team emerging victorious over the South African team in the final match in Barbados on June 29. Following the summit clash, the International Cricket Council revealed its team of the tournament for the 2024 edition.

The Indian cricket team defeated South Africa in the final by seven runs in a thrilling encounter. Rohit Sharma became the second Indian captain, after the legendary MS Dhoni, to lead the team to a T20 World Cup victory. The Men in Blue last won the T20 World Cup in the inaugural edition in South Africa in 2007.

Six players from the Indian squad, including captain Rohit Sharma and Player of the Tournament Jasprit Bumrah, have been included in the ICC team of the tournament. The South African players didn't find a place in the playing XI, despite finishing as runner-up in the event in the West Indies and the USA.

Three players from Afghanistan have been included after their impressive performance in reaching the semis. One player each from the West Indies and Australia made the cut. The selection panel consisted of commentators Harsha Bhogle, Ian Bishop, Kass Naidoo, and ICC General Manager of Cricket Wasim Khan.

Rohit Sharma Named Captain In Team Of The Tournament

Rohit Sharma will captain the team of the tournament after leading India to the title. Rohit was the second top run-scorer, with 257 runs in eight innings. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the tournament's leading run-getter with 281 runs, partnered with Rohit in the squad for the recently concluded T20 tournament.

Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis will form the middle order in the squad. Pooran scored 228 runs at an average of 38, including 98 off 53 balls against Afghanistan. Stoinis scored 169 runs at an impressive average above 40 and a strike rate over 160. He also took 10 wickets with the ball during the competition.

Suryakumar Yadav made crucial contributions with the bat against the USA, Afghanistan, and England in the semi-final match. Suryakumar also took the catch of David Miller in the final over of the World Cup final. Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel were named as all-rounders in the team of the tournament.

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan is included as a bowling all-rounder in the team, having taken 14 wickets in the event. The pace attack featured Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Fazalhaq Farooqi. South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who claimed 15 wickets in the tournament, is named as the 12th man.
