Aakash Chopra makes bold prediction on Virat Kohli chasing 100 century records
In a video uploaded by Cricinfo, the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Aakash Chopra was asked whether Virat Kohli will break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 centuries in international cricket when the former retires from international cricket. Chopra stated that Virat would end his career with 98 international centuries.
This comes as a shocker, with Virat Kohli sitting at 86 international centuries at the moment, and India, as of now, has 13 ODIs left to play before the ODI World Cup 2027, where they will play a minimum of 11 matches, with an expected total of over 30 matches combined; it is a bold comment made by Aakash Chopra, given the kind of form Kohli is in.
Virat Kohli achieved his 86th century in the first ODI against the West Indies, where he played an outstanding knock of 139 runs off 88 deliveries, smashing 10 fours and 9 sixes in his flamboyant innings. This was a new version of the former India captain, which he showcased in the series: more aggressive, and he destroyed the Windies bowling attack.
Virat Kohli inching closer to Sachin Tendulkar's 100 centuries record
Virat just needs 15 more centuries to surpass the great Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 international centuries. He has already surpassed the ODI century record of his idol during the ODI World Cup 2023, at Wankhede Stadium, in the semi-final.
The 37-year-old currently stands at 55 ODI centuries; to surpass Sachin’s record, he needs to score 70 centuries in total before he retires.

India is going to play the third and final ODI match at the New Chandigarh Stadium. Ahead of that, the schedule for the ODI World Cup 2027, which is scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, the fixtures for the same have been announced on Thursday evening.
The Men in Blue have been allotted to Group A alongside defending champions Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, co-host Zimbabwe, and the team qualifying from Qualifier A, with the opening match of the tournament beginning between the finalists of the 2023 ODI World Cup, India, taking on Australia in Newlands, Cape Town, on October 7th 2027, as India vs Pakistan is scheduled on 10th October 2027.
